Peripheral Nerve Disorders

Peripheral nerve disorders affect the nerves outside the brain and spinal cord, including sensory, motor, and autonomic nerves.

Types

These disorders can include mononeuropathies (affecting a single nerve) like ulnar nerve palsy, polyneuropathies (affecting multiple nerves) such as diabetic neuropathy, and neuritis (inflammation of nerves).

Symptoms

Symptoms vary depending on the nerves affected but may include numbness, tingling, burning pain, muscle weakness, and in some cases, problems with organ function.

Treatment

Treatment depends on the underlying cause and may include medications to relieve pain, physical therapy, lifestyle changes, and in some cases, surgical intervention to repair or decompress affected nerves.
